Professor Gerard Bodeker

Spatality is fortunate to enjoy an ongoing collaborative relationship with world-renowned wellness expert Prof. Gerard Bodeker who consults with us on matters of health, wellness and integrative medicine.

 

Prof. Bodeker works internationally in the wellness and complementary medicine fields. Prof. Bodeker’s doctoral studies were at Harvard University and he is a senior faculty member in public health at Oxford University and Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University, New York.

 

He has been Chair of the Commonwealth Working Group on Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine and has done work on traditional medicine and medicinal plant conservation for a number of UN agencies, including the World Health Organisation, the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility and the UN Food & Agriculture Organisation.

 

Prof. Bodeker regularly advises corporations, government agencies, and international organisations on new directions in wellness practice and natural healthcare and has served as an advisor to National Geographic Magazine.

 

He has written extensively on traditional & complementary medicine. Professor Bodeker is Editor-in-Chief of the World Health Organization Global Atlas on Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, WHO, Geneva, 2005. He is a founding editor of the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine, and is editor of a recent book with Imperial College Press, London, on Policy & Public Health Perspectives on traditional Complementary & Alternative Medicine (2007).

 

Prof. Bodeker has co-edited a new book “Understanding the Global Spa Industry” (2008), published by Elsevier Press, Oxford, and is series editor for Elsevier on a forthcoming set of books on the spa industry.
